Questions About Pilates

Here you'll find questions and answers about exercise during pregnancy, answered by physical therapist Josefin Eriksson.

Pilates works out the entire body, with a focus on core strength, flexibility, balance and mindfulness. It’s a great form of exercise for those who want to strengthen their bodies in a gentle way, and it can be effectively combined with strength training.

The program also takes special care to ensure that the body needs during during pregnancy and the postpartum period. Coach Josefin Eriksson isn’t just an exceptional physical therapist specializing in women’s health—she’s also an incredible Pilates instructor!

The Pilates program is designed both for those who are completely new to Pilates and for those who have previous experience.

The entire program consists of video workouts, and all exercises can be adapted to your own ability and how you're feeling that day.

In the slightly more challenging exercises, you'll be guided through different options so you can choose the one that feels best for you.

Yes, absolutely—the program is designed with the pregnant body in mind!

If you're pregnant, it's important to know that we don't divide workouts by trimester; instead, we encourage you to listen to your body and adjust the intensity to suit your needs. Coach Jossan will help you with this during every workout.

Some pregnant women will experience vena cava syndrome during exercises performed while lying on their backs, which can cause discomfort, dizziness, nausea, or other unpleasant symptoms.

Often, the solution is to change your position, and in some cases, it works really well to “props up” your lower back a little. For example, you can place a pillow on the floor under your shoulders and head when doing exercises while lying on your back, or you can place the pillow under the right side of your body so that you’re tilted slightly to the left.

Exercising on your back is nothing to be afraid of during pregnancy, but it’s definitely unnecessary to exercise on your back if you’re experiencing symptoms related to the vena cava. In that case, trythe pillow trick, or simply skip the exercises done on your back if the trick doesn’t help.
